A Very Blustery Day

Wind.
the perceptible natural movement of the air
And in my opinion the second most unpleasant of the common weather conditions aside from the vicious combination of both wind and rain. (I of course omit plagues of locusts, raining frogs and other such unusual phenomena) Unfortunately however, I seem find myself in possibly the windiest city in the East Midlands, Leicester. Last night this invisible force of nature howled around Tichborne Street like a storm in a lurid gothic novel. Any journey through University becomes a battle of wills between yourself, the bag of books repeatedly bashing you in the kneecaps and the wind.
And yet...
Plastic carrier bags, far elevated from their usual utilitarian purposes are given brief autonomous life, swirl majestically in the air before unceremoniously plunging downwards into the path of oncoming cars. Leaves plucked from the barest of tree branches have one final dance with nature before collecting in small piles on the doorstep. Yes, it has its own beauty the wind, but I find it best appreciated from the indoors side of our sash windows.
