Tick-tock-Tick-tock

Since I can remember I have needed the steady tick-tock of a clock or a watch close to my pillow in order to get to sleep. It is of course important that the ticking is not of the intrusive variety as I favour the soft 'clucking type' to those which overtly assert their presence like an enormous grandfather clock. I can understand however why some people don't like it, especially when you are finding it difficult to get to sleep the arrogant ticking of a clock marking the hours as they slip by can be rather uncalled for.

Mondaine watch: The Love of my Life
But not me, I find time too fascinating. I love watches and sundials, atomic clocks, quartz movement and mechanical. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the pendulum (probably Edgar Allen Poe's fault). One of my most treasured possessions is my Mondaine Swiss Railway watch, when I don't wear it (which isn't very often) I just feel completely lost and without direction. It's a real shame these days that ever decreasing amounts of people wear watches, summed up by the fact that nearly everyone has the time on their mobile phone. But you can't (as far as I know) wear a mobile phone on your wrist, and indeed, why would you want to? A well designed watch to me is as much as a piece of jewellery as any bracelet.

I'm now completely addicted to Polyvore and I have made another 'set' or collage featuring just watches.
